Swine Flu Pandemic!

Alert! Alert! Alert!

I just received notice, via CNN News Alerts, that the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the threat level for the worldwide Swine Flue Pandemic to 5 (where 6 is the maximum)!!! 5 People! Freak Out Time!

OK, five brief things about the Pandemic:

1 - The Daily Show from Monday April 27th. The first segment is the best segment in the history of the show! Watch embedded below or via this link over at Hulu.

2 - As of now, there are 91 confirmed cases in the United Stats, 20-40 of them from a single group of kids who vacationed together in Mexico. Out of 300 million people, I would hardly call this an epidemic, outbreak or pandemic let alone give it the TV time it has garnered. Note that the one patient who has died is from Mexico and came to the United States for better healthcare!

3 - I would like to know how many people have died or were injured due to Drunk Driving in the United States in the past, say, week. Can we consider drunk driving a pandemic? Would it get better attention if that were the case? Do you know more people have died due to drunk driving in the past year than have been killed in the Iraq war? Why no outrage?

4 - Last night a friend of mine had a child with a 105 fever and brought her to the local Emergency Room. She did not have nor fear having the swine flu. But get this - on a traditionally slow Tuesday evening in the ER, it was JAM PACKED with people fearing they had the swine flu! Seriously - the ER was packed full of people in surgical masks thinking they were dying from swine flu! My friend said it was downright scary seeing all these people in the ER fearing for their lives!

5 - Once I received my WHO alert, I sorta freaked out - wondering what I should do to protect and prepare myself. I searched the Internet high and low. You know what I found - I should eat a Pop Tart. Seriously. If you scour the Internet enough, you will find the answers to all of your questions. Seriously, on-line, it states that eating a Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tart is the best way to deal with the swine fly pandemic.

People - Chill Out! Have a Pop Tart, watch The Daily Show and relax. Even if you get the Swine Flu, you'll most likely survive and it will be no worse than any other flu that comes around ever year. Chill Out America - and the 24hr media that needs sensationalism to garner attention and ratings.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
